Place the starter/water in a bowl; save your sourdough crock for Step 2. Add 8 ounces (1 cup) lukewarm water and 8 1/2 ounces (2 cups) King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour. Mix, cover the bowl loosely, and let sit at cool room temperature (about 68°F to 70°F) for 8 to 12 hours. The starter should expand and start to become bubbly. 2. King Arthur Instant Sourdough Flavor.

Since I've discovered sourdough bread I'm always looking for new recipes to try. I recieved this one with an order from King Arthur, tried it and really liked it even if it does take some effort, time and planning to get it done. If you like a stronger sourdough taste (which we do) it recommends to substitute 1/2 cup rye or whole wheat flour for 1/2 cup of the unbleached all-purpose flour in

teaspoon baking soda. Yield: 1 dozen 8" waffles or about 2 dozen Turn out a warm loaf of traditional sourdough bread with a chewy texture, a mild sourdough flavor, and a crunchy crust.

Sourdough Battle - King Arthur vs.

1 cup (227g) ripe (fed) sourdough starter; 1 3/4 cups (397g) water, lukewarm; 5 cups (602g) King Arthur Unbleached Bread Flour; 1 tablespoon (18g) salt; 2 teaspoons diastatic malt powder, optional for a more golden color and stronger rise

Shape into a rustic boule, bake in a traditional loaf pan, or divide and make into dinner rolls. Handsome stoneware crock is the perfect size and material for fridge-storage of your slumbering sourdough. Never again mistakenly throw out your starter because you forgot what was in that unmarked mason jar! Glazed inside and out to be perfectly non-reactive. Holds a scant 2 pounds brown sugar or 1 pound flour. IMPORTANT beginning sourdough bread bakers, we recommend starting with the Rustic Sourdough Bread recipe (see back cover).
